Siriux XM Alt 18 Countdown of alternative music, Nov. 7, 2020 | Holly Humberstone, grandson, MISSIO make their moves
No change with the Top 3 on the Oct. 17, 2020 Alt18 Countdown, but some interesting new additions from Royal Blood, Abhi the Nomad and somegirlnamedanna. Junior Mesa, JAWNY, and Claire Rosinkranz fell off this week’s list.
AJR is a steady presence on the Alt18 reverse sequential alternative Countdown and they’re back this week with “Bummerland.” But did you hear about their new hot sauce, “Bang!”? It got me thinking about other products for Alt18 bands, like “Fire for You” matches from Cannons, “Feel the Sun” lamp to fight winter depression from MISSIO, or signature “Tangerine” from Glass Animals. In these trying times, these bands need to squeeze out every penny from their songs.
Grandson joins the Countdown at 18 with “Dirty,” a song certain to hang around for awhile on AltNation. Holly Humberstone, a Madison favorite, jumps to No. 9 with “Falling Asleep at the Wheel.” The 20-year-old from England is getting some serious press with profiles in the New York Times and a host of music journals and magazines, plus an appearance on Kimmel.
Robert DeLong and Ashe return to the countdown after debuting and then falling off the list with “Better in College,” which is a natural fit for a Coors Light commercial.
Missio jumps up to No. 4. Maybe they could get together in Austin with No. 17 Abhi the Nomad? I’d listen to whatever they did — even the Paw Patrol soundtrack.
“Identical” by Phoenix and the long-running No. 1 “My Own Soul’s Warning” by the Killers drop off the Countdown. Identical had been on the countdown since Aug. 29; MOSW since June 20.
And, Glass Animals hold at No. 1 for the fifth consecutive week.
